In survival/horror Dead By Daylight, there are a number of reasons why players choose between the 22 survivors of the game. Aesthetic, familiarity, and most importantly, their perks are all main contributing factors. Each survivor comes with a set of three perks that aid survivors on the map.

The perks can be anything between healing speed to damaging hooks. Players can build the survivors in any way they want so the best way to rank them is by ranking the innate perks the survivors come with. Here is a tier list of all the present survivors in Dead By Daylight.

22 Ace Visconti
Ace is easily the worst character in the game. His perks, "Open-Handed," "Up the Ante," and "Ace in the Hole" are all pretty useless when it comes to actual gameplay and can only really be used in very nitch circumstances. Even then, each of his perks do not do that much to aid him or his team.
21 Quentin Smith
Right next to Ace is Quentin Smith from the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Each of Quentin's perks can be used to help his team, which helps puts him one level above Ace. With "Pharmacy" he is pretty much promised a new medkit for the trial if he can get to it.
20 Ashley "Ash" Williams
Ash from The Evil Dead franchise is also low on the tier list, unfortunately. Many felt like his DLC was pretty lack-luster because it only came with him whereas many come with a new survivor and killer.
All three of Ash's perks are used to help him survive in dire situations but many other character perks would be better suited than his.
19 Steve Harrington
Steve Harrington is one of the two survivors from the Stranger Things DLC. And though people love playing him for their love of the character, his perks are nothing to be impressed with. "Babysitter" is probably Steve's best perk.
It helps nearby teammates escape the killer's grasp and hide their scratch marks so that the killer doesn't have a lasting trail to follow.
18 Kate Denson
Kate Denson is one of the loudest characters in the game and has pretty useless perks as well, save for one. "Boil Over" is a perk that can be used situationally, but players will feel so thankful to have it when the time comes. It gives survivors a faster wiggle speed, meaning the player can shake free of the killer's grasp.
17 Adam Francis
All of Adam Francis's perks can be incredibly useful, but only during extremely specific (and difficult) situations which makes him not one of the better characters overall.
With "Distraction," the player needs to be in the killer's terror radius, undetected, in order create a loud sound and scratch marks away from the chased teammate to confuse the killer.
16 Jeffery "Jeff" Johansen
Jeff is actually the loudest character in the game. His grunts of pain can be heard from super far away which works in favor of the killer.

With "Breakdown," Jeff breaks the hook he had been placed on whenever he frees himself or is unhooked by another survivor. This helps eliminate the possibilities of where the killer can place survivors and increase the opportunity to wiggle out for the killer's grasp.
15 David Tapp
David Tapp, the detective from the Saw franchise, is lower mid-tier on the survivor rankings. "Tenacity" gives him that extra push, he crawls much faster and can recover himself at the same time.
This paired with Bill's "Unbreakable" would be a perfect combo to allow Tapp to continue his attempt at survival.
14 Zarina Kassir
Zarina is one of the newer characters in the game. Each of her perks are fairly useful and help her and her team gets some recon around the map.
With "Off the Record," Zarina becomes pretty much silent. Her aura is hidden from the killer and her grunts of pain are reduced to 100%.
13 Yui Kimura
Each of Yui's perks are relatively helpful and either aid her or her teammates in a trial. With "Any Means Necessary," Yui resets a fallen pallet, which is perfect for looping the killer, something nearly every survivor does in order to stall the killer while teammates complete generators.
12 Cheryl Mason
Cheryl Mason is the newest survivor and is from the famous horror franchise, Silent Hill. Cheryl perks are heavily based on lore from the series.
With "Repressed Alliance," Cheryl is able to lock a generator for 30 seconds and shows the aura to survivors across the map. This is helpful when nearly complete with a generator so that a killer cannot kick or ruin the progress of the nearly completed gen.
11 Jade Romero
All of Jade's perks are really useful but have rather short durations that will be more helpful in pinch situations. With "Solidarity," Jade gains health back when healing teammates.
With "Poised," she leaves no scratch marks for a duration after completing a generator. And with "Head On," she stuns the killer for 3 seconds after leaving a locker.
10 Nancy Wheeler
Nancy Wheeler is a total team player. After cleansing a totem, she heals one health state by hiding in a locker with "Inner Strength."
Nancy can see her own scratch marks and increase her walking speed with "Fixated." She also is able to show the aura of the generator she is working on to her teammates with "Better Together."
9 Nea Karlsson
Nea is somewhat of a "stealthy" survivor and can easily hide by the killer. With "Urban Evasion," Nea is able to move way faster when she is in a crouched position.

With "Balanced Landing," Nea gets a sprint burst after falling, which is incredibly helpful when trying to evade a killer.
8 Feng Min
Feng Min is a silent survivor and is incredibly useful when it comes to the main objective of the game: completing the generators. When Feng uses "Technician," her repair sounds are reduced to a smaller zone, making it incredibly difficult for the killer to hear her.
7 Jake Park
Like Feng Min, Jake is also more silent. With his perks "Iron Will" and "Calm Spirit" his grunts of pain and likeliness to alert crows are reduced dramatically, allowing him to walk around the map quietly. With "Saboteur," Jake is able to sabotage hooks without the need for a toolbox.
6 David King
David King has two pretty amazing perks, and one not so good. "Dead Hard" allows him to dash away from the killer, a state in which he cannot take any damage.
"We're Gonna Live Forever" gives players extra Bloodpoints, which is perfect for new players to level up their characters.
5 Dwight Fairfield
All of Dwight's perks help his fellow survivors when they are in a specific range of him, and also allows him to watch and monitor what is going on in the game at any given time.
With "Leader" and "Prove Thyself," Dwight grants bonus speed to his teammates when every they are completing actions.
4 William "Bill" Overbeck
With "Unbreakable," Bill doesn't need to wait on his teammates to pick him up off the ground, he can do so himself. With "Borrowed Time," his teammates are able to safely run away after they are unhooked, giving them "deep wound" rather than putting them in the dying state when hurt by a killer.
3 Claudette Morel
Claudette is extremely vital due to the fact that she can heal herself without the need for a medkit. She also has increased healing speed and efficiency when healing her teammates. With her perk, "Empathy," Claudette can see the aura of her injured teammates.
